I am a graduate from the School of Fine Arts at The University of Texas in Austin where I was a design student, printmaker, and painter. I began a successful freelance design career in Houston after a few years cutting my teeth in ad agencies. It was fiercely competitive; truly great designers roamed the Texas landscape, and I learned the trade inside and out. I sat on the board of directors of the American Institute of Graphic Arts in Texas, designed & edited the AIGA journal, collected numerous awards and accolades. I also became immersed in the fine arts community. That led me back to painting, which now takes place in a studio outside of Austin. Much of my studio work is based on iconography and symbology directly related to my work as a lifelong designer. There are always fresh canvases being filled with symbols around the studio, and a slide guitar is usually within easy reach. For a look at this work, please visit www.chrismayes.com.

Please contact the studio for a free consultation and assessment of your marketing needs. I always enjoy it when interesting design jobs present themselves. Big or small. Solving design riddles and creating design solutions will always be in my blood.

For quick reference here are six of my larger canvases, beginning with slightly narrative to fully abstract. Each utilize a language of symbols, marks, characters and icons. If you look back to previous pages on this site, the same basic spirit and dynamic in both the fine and the applied art works is clear.
